Smart modem signal booster / gsm simple

Just a few days ago I bought a modem Prolink, hoses two days later there was a student who offered me a smart modem, he said, pay for college, because it is interested, yes I bought it. Moreover, there is free internet bonus until April, when the count I paid for 2 months internet connection.

At the time the use of smart modems on campus, I did not experience significant obstacles, browsing smoothly, good signal and very fast download. See picture below:

But another story when I was wearing smart modem at home, knowing that lives in the suburbs of semarang, there are many coconut plantations. The signal was experiencing problems, the download speed so haltingly. Even just browsing do not want.

Finally, the concept Wajanbolic sayateringat have friends to catch the signal and reinforcing it. Because the house was dirty pan really, finally I try to use the pan used to boil the wife of instant noodle. As a result if the audience was very funny. Try to note the following images:

Antique 1964 Livermore \'Model A\' modem still works, crawls at a hot 300 baud

Seeing this modem from 1964 inspires a weird sense of envy, even if it is as slow as molasses. My wireless router looks cool and all, but it didn't come in a hand-carved box with dovetail joints, brass buckles, leather handles and a piano hinge. That's one sweet box, made even sweeter by the fact that it houses a Livermore Data Systems "Model A" acoustic modem, which reaches a blistering(ly slow) 300 baud. To the modern eye, it looks like something that belongs in a steampunk workshop.

It was given to Casey, also known on Youtube as Phreakmonkey, as a gift in 1989 by the widow of a retired IBM engineer. With a bit of work, he managed to get it running once more with what looks like an old ThinkPad, a telephone from the '80s, and of course the "Model A." Where's he go first? Wikipedia, naturally. Help to Install an AT&T DSL Motorola Modem

AT&T provides its DSL customers with a Motorola 2210 DSL modem, specially configured for use with its networks. These modems are designed for ease of installation. All you need to do to get the device operating is run an installation program, connect a few cables and configure the modem for use with your network.

    Installation

  1. Before you begin, you should spend some time figuring out how you wish to integrate your DSL modem into your home network. If you only have one computer, this may not be much of an issue. However, multiple computers will require use of a networking hub and enough Ethernet cabling to reach all of your devices. Alternatively, you can attach a wireless router to your modem and connect your computers that way. Determining the approach that will work best for you depends on the location of the various computers and how many walls stand between them and the modem.

    Once you've planned out your network, the next step in the installation process will depend on the type of your computer you are using. If your computer runs Windows, insert the installation CD that came packaged with your modem. An installer application will launch automatically (if, for some reason, it does not, you can browse the CD's contents and launch the installer manually). Follow the onscreen instructions and the installer will guide you through the process of connecting your modem to the DSL line and network cable. If you are using a Macintosh, you will have no such installer to help guide you. Instead, make the various cable connections in this order: power supply to power jack, DSL cable to DSL port (the one furthest left) and Ethernet cable to Ethernet port. The various cables have unique connectors, which will aid you in determining which port to use.

  3. Once you have your modem connected, launch your computer's web browser and navigate to the following address: 192.168.1.254. This will open the modem's web-based configuration screen. As it's your first time using the modem, you will be prompted to select a password for future use. Enter your login info when prompted (leave the user name as "admin") and click on the button labeled "Connect." At this point, the modem should be ready for use. However, your ISP may provide their own set of configurations for you to input into your operating system's "Network" settings (usually found in a section of the operating system labeled "System Preferences" or "Control Panels").

  • AT&T Communication Manager version 6.8 or higher, which is free with your LaptopConnect device and can be downloaded here. To check the version of AT&T Communication Manager you have now, open the software and navigate to Help—>About Communication Manager.
  • A LaptopConnect card or USB device

How to get started:

  1. At an AT&T Wi-Fi Basic location, insert your LaptopConnect card or USB device (required for user identification). You may find AT&T Wi-Fi Basic locations by visiting the hot spot locator and searching for "Basic Only" locations.
  2. Launch AT&T Communication Manager version 6.8 or higher. Communication Manager will automatically select AT&T Wi-Fi Basic hot spots for you when you're in range.
  3. When prompted to connect to an AT&T hot spot, click Connect.
  4. Communication Manager will take a moment to establish your connection. After it confirms that a connection is established, launch your browser, email application, or other internet application and you'll be ready to go.

CTIA Fall: Elektrobit's Windows Mobile Satellite Phone


At CTIA today, we caught up with Elektrobit, a small firm who's doing their best to reinvent the formerly-clunky satellite phone into the sleek, Windows Mobile PDA/phone you see at left.

Elektrobit's Satellite-Terrestrial Reference Design, shown at left, is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional phone that looks like a somewhat chunkier Motorola Q. We first saw the concept at the previous CTIA show six months ago; now they have a working model. The keyboard is interesting, with small raised dots on each key. The device resists cold and heat well, but it isn't formally ruggedized.

The Elektrobit phone runs on Wi-Fi when it can, on 3G networks such as AT&T's when it's in cellular range, and on satellite networks when it's out of range. Elektrobit said it works on a system known as S-Band, a system that the TerreStar network will use when it launches next year.

Specs are pretty decent. The phone runs on an unusual STN 8815 Nomadik processor, which is a 300 Mhz ARM9 unit. It's got a 3-megapixel camera, and runs for 4 hours of talk time on 3G networks or about half that on satellite. It'll probably cost only 10-15% more than comparable non-satellite phones, company execs said.

Elektrobit doesn't plan to sell this on their own - they're looking for OEMs or carriers to launch the phone. Look for it next year.

The company also showed off a prototype of a modem based on the same design, that could hook PCs into satellite or cellular networks depending on where they are. Check that photo out after the jump.

Thrane M4 data modem

This terminal is a further development of the existing Capsat® Messenger (M4) system with a focus on the MPDS service. With MPDS, the user is only charged by the amount of data sent and received and it is therefore an ideal solution for e-mail, scada applications, web and intranet access.

The TT-3080M Data Terminal, which uses Inmarsat’s GAN Service, is enabled for data transfer at either 2.4 Kbps, 64Kbps (Mobile ISDN) or Packet Data (MPDS). The voice facility is not available on this terminal, making it smaller, less expensive and more suitable for data-intensive solutions.

The terminal was developed primarily for scada applications, which are often run from unmanned locations and where data gathering and transmission is a necessity. With the Data Terminal, GCS expands into new markets such as remote banking, rural social welfare programs, and oil & gas markets.

Wi-Fi Thief Causes Bomb Scare With a Tape-Covered Router


A resourceful Pennsylvania man waterproofed his router using a box and tape before sticking it onto his windowsill to use a nearby library's wi-fi. Too bad that he taped the gadget up so well that it looked like a bomb.

Note: The pictured router belongs to GitEmSteveDave and to the best of my knowledge isn't the router from this story.

Basically the guy's taped up router-in-a-box fell off his third floor windowsill and caused the person who found it to panic and call the police. An explosives expert squad was then sent in and "neutralized" the threat.

Now, we can laugh about this incident and panic all we want, but I'll be the honest one and say that a router falling from the sky would scare the hell out of me. And I don't even have hell in me to begin with. [Penn]
