ST-Ericsson, Sagem Wireless enter multimode platform collaboration

Mobile platform and wireless semiconductor company ST-Ericsson, 50%-owned by Swedish Ericsson (STO: ERIC B), said today it and France-based Sagem Wireless will jointly develop a multimode platform, which can connect to LTE, HSPA+, 3G and GSM networks.The partners expect to launch a mobile broadband modem by the end of 2010.

Supporting downlink speeds of up to 100 mbp/s via LTE and 21 mbp/s via HSPA+, Sagem Wireless's dongle modems will enable Internet gateways to offer wireless access with ultra-high speed. In addition, these modems will enable laptops to log on to the Internet wherever there is mobile coverage.


The collaboration is part of a broader strategic partnership announced by ST-Ericsson and Sagem Wireless in March.

In December 2009, the partners said they had successfully achieved mobility between LTE and HSPA networks, using a multimode LTE/HSPA device based on ST-Ericsson's platform.
