Watch a Guy Build an “iPad 3″ in Two Weeks
To anyone wondering why on earth you’d want to build an “iPad 3″ from scratch, you better ask this insane geek since he spent two weeks time to build an awesome looking white tablet and he call it as the “iPad 3″. From picking the parts, to mounting the motherboard and then installing the OS (Windows XP!), you got to watch his solid step-by-step guide to build the tablet. I love the small, medium and large sizes of Apple stickers he got!

In Genius Of Android
Phones At Every Price Point
Right now, you can pick up a new Android phone for less than $100, or you can spend $840 on a Honeycomb-equipped tablet, and there are dozens of options in between. And that right there sums up the biggest advantage of Google’s open-sourced approach to smartphones: it can offer something for everyone.
This week, Google’s I/O developer conference is taking place in San Francisco, and it’s inevitable that we’ll be hearing about some cool new Android features as a result. In celebration of that event, we’ll be focusing on Android all this week, looking at what’s currently available, what’s coming in the future, and how to make the most of Android as a phone buyer and an app consumer. And in kicking off that coverage, it seems worth celebrating what has proved to the biggest advantage of Android: the range of devices on which it is available.
For Australian consumers, this hasn’t always been the case. When the initial tickle of Android devices began in the US, it was barely a dribble over here. Early attempts to launch bargain-basement phones (such as the planned Kogan Agora) ultimately came to nothing, and for much of 2010 we still only had a limited range of carrier-supported phones, many of which were stuck on version 1.6. While there was always a whole lot to love about Android phones — easy Google integration, no need to sync with a PC, and a range of apps in an open app store environment — device and network choice took a while to come to fruition.
If you examine the current Android space, though, there’s no doubt that choice has finally arrived. The cheapest Android phones now provide a realistic competitor to bargain-basement supermarket phones, and a competitor which provides way more functionality. In the main market, HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson offer a massive range of options. And in the tablet space, the arrival of Honeycomb has kick-started a market which last year consisted of a handful of devices, many of them decidedly minimal in their feature set.
That’s certainly not to say that Android is perfect. A quick but probably not exhaustive list: carriers can still provide an unpleasant roadblock to getting updates; the open market approach can pose security challenges; manufacturer enhancements are often a waste of time; and we’re still seeing a lot of hardware hit Australia rather later than elsewhere in the world.
Nor does that mean that the non-Android choices aren’t viable. Indeed, the competition between Android, Apple, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian is a key reason why smartphones have got as good as they have so quickly. But I can’t imagine Apple (for example) working hard on building an iOS-enabled device that sells for less than $100.

Logitech Z515 Wireless Speaker
Logitech Z515 Wireless Speaker
Like most other people who live in small spaces, I rely on my laptop or smart phone or MP3 player as my sole entertainment center instead of having a large, fixed system in the living room. This suits me just fine, as it means I’m not confined to one room when I want to listen to music or watch a video. However, notebooks and small handhelds don’t produce the best audio in the world, nor the loudest. Thus, I have about four different speakers around my apartment — bedroom, kitchen, living room, bathroom — and none of them completely satisfactory. Then Logitech sent me the wireless speaker.
The Z515 connects to devices wirelessly via Bluetooth or the included USB transmitter for PC and Mac and operates on a rechargeable battery, so you can place it anywhere in the house. Both the transmitter and the Bluetooth radio have a similar range. I’m usually able to listen to audio streamed from my smart phone up to 20 feet away, though the quality depends on how many thick walls are between the speaker and the source.
Even though the box, instructions, and product page on Logitech’s website mostly mention computer, iPhone and iPad connectivity, in reality the Z515 will connect to any device with Bluetooth. I mention this because this information is a bit buried in Logitech’s included materials. One would assume that a device with a Bluetooth connection would work with all Bluetooth devices, yes, but the persistence of iPhone/iPad mentions might discourage people with other kinds of phones. Don’t worry, it works. I tested it with an HTC Evo 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I really like that the Z515 also includes a transmitter for computers, since not all models come with Bluetooth. The USB dongle is about 2 inches long, so it sticks out quite a bit. I ran into a small problem of it interfering with my notebook’s Wi-Fi connectivity when it was plugged in but the Z515 was off. I think it was searching for a signal constantly. Pulling it out solved the problem. When not in use, the transmitter fits into a little notch on the back of the casing.
There’s also an audio-in jack for connecting devices that don’t have Bluetooth, such as MP3 players.
Audio quality is very good for its size, and volume is never a problem. I have never had a reason to turn it up all the way, even while in the shower or washing dishes. Whether listening to the news or music, voices and instruments are always clear, with good bass and treble.
I’ve found several great uses for the Z515. For instance: late-night movie watching. I can set it right next to the bed and the laptop on my desk across the room, then keep the volume relatively low so I didn’t disturb my roommates.
Logitech claims that the Z515 will last up to 10 hours on a charge. I was able to play music for around 7 hours straight via Bluetooth before the battery light turned orange, and even then it could have gone on for longer. It takes around an hour to charge up completely.

Price cut heading for PSPgo
Even before release day, the PSPgo suffered from bad publicity mainly due the early announcement of allowing the gamer to only being able to download content with Sony doing away with the UMD drive altogether.
Then there was the pricing of the unit... At $250 brand-spanking new, the PSPgo wasn't going to do itself any favours.
Well it now looks like Sony's poorly-received handheld will be receiving a price cut of around $50. News comes via Joystiq, as an online retailer is said to be price-cutting the console in a couple of days.
In trying to tempt new customers to purchase one of these, offers of free games (10 in fact) have been rife but we think this just wasn't enough and just didn't cut it to make the console worthy of our hard-earned cash.
At the moment, nothing has been said as to whether or not the PSPgo in the UK will be receiving such a slashed down price but it does seem inevitable, especially if Sony are really wanting to dish out a few more of these handheld to satisfy and make up for their losses.
Now that it seems the PSPgo will be getting a $50 price cut, is this enough? We don't think so. Let us know what you think. Has this changed your mind about buying one??
Sony Concept Camera Unveiled
Sony are working on a new ultra-compact camera that uses interchangeable lenses. The new DSLR is currently being developed and is scheduled for launch this year. The camera uses a newly developed Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor that supports HD video recording in the AVCHD format.
As well as introducing and showing an early design of the ultra-compact camera, Sony also had on show their latest DSLR called the a700 which at this moment in time, is also a concept/mock up. This camera falls in to the mid-range area of cameras from Sony and is aimed at so called "prosumers" and those who immerse themselves more in to photography.
Not many details of launch dates are known just yet as the cameras are still in early stages of development. Hopefully we'll get more details soon on where Sony are heading with the ultra-compact camera pictured above.

While LG isn't a real competitor for HTC, Samsung or Apple, it seems that its new Android Froyo phone, LU 3000, is a real impressive piece, faster than Galaxy S and iPhone 4. Made for the South Korean market, the device was announced at the KES2010, the equivalent event of the US CES and is considered to be a high-end phone.
