gadget maniac | Apple To Stop Selling Xserve After January 31st, Introduces Mac Pro Server To Make Everyone Happy Again

apple logo silver Apple To Stop Selling Xserve After January 31st, Introduces Mac Pro Server To Make Everyone Happy AgainApple has never been as big on enterprise as it has on consumers, and if you’re one of the enterprise users hoping to make use of OS X Server on the Xserve, you’ll have to get in pretty quickly, as it has an expiry date coming up pretty soon.

After January 31st, you will no longer be able to purchase an Xserve, and will have to choose between two other options open to you: Mac Pro server or Mac Mini server.

Now at this point, some of you may be thinking “Mac Pro server? What the bloody hell is he going on about?!”. Don’t worry, I haven’t just made up a product out of thin air, in fact it was introduced very covertly by Apple following the near death of the Xserve.

Starting at £2399, the Mac Pro Server comes with a 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem processor, 8GB (4 x 2GB) of RAM, two 1TB hard drives, the ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5, and of course Mac OS X Server. If you’re interested, the estimated dispatch time for the Mac Pro server is currently 2-4 weeks, so you can get your order in from today.

Somehow, I don’t think the Xserve will get an OS 9 style funeral, but it will still be missed by many in the industry. Nah, who are we kidding, no one used those things anyway!
