Playstation Loyalty Rewards Program Announced, But What About The European Launch?

Playstation Loyalty Rewards Program Announced, But What About The European Launch?

Sony has announced that they will be introducing a new Loyalty Rewards scheme for Playstation 3 users which is set to be released in Spring 2011……for the US only!!!

At first it will be an invitation only beta which will then roll out to the rest of the US next year. On a European launch, Sony had this to say:

“We will be evaluating the success of the programme in that region, and based on the response of consumers, we will consider rolling it out to other markets in the future.”

Now I’d normally make some comment about how the small area of Europe always gets screwed over and gets things last, if at all, but I won’t this time. I’ll hold my tongue and not mention that we’re all getting sick of being left out of all the new things.

So what does this new ‘Loyalty’ scheme involve? There’ll be things like Playstation Home content, Playstation Network avatars and dynamic themes as well as sweepstakes and some pretty big prizes like being a guest at the 2011 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) which is in Las Vegas. Alright for some!

There are three different tiers to the reward scheme which will change on the users activity on the Playstation. So things such as playing games for the first time, buying content via the PSN or Home, and even taking part in surveys. As you do more, you’ll move up the tiers and your prizes will get better. The tiers for the loyalty schem are Select, Pro and Legendary. No doubt you’ll have to clock a gazillion gameplay hours to get to Legendary status and have spent your yearly earnings on PSN.

Although I’m a slightly bitter about being left out of a loyalty scheme for Playstation users, I do think it’s a good idea and will hopefully be spread out to Europeans in the not so distant future. Then we can all benefit from being loyal fans and not just the US being rewarded.

What are your views on this? Think it’s a good idea? Annoyed the Americans have got yet something else before us? Whatever your views, let us know in the comments below.
