Sharp Unveils 3D-Enabled Smartphones

Sharp has also embraced the Android, first with its upcoming line of tablet computers called “Galapagos” and now with a pair of smartphones carrying the same name. These phones, however, have something else aside from Android that Sharp thinks would make it a best-seller: Both have 3D displays that do not require glasses.

The Android 2.2-powered Galapagos 003SH (pictured) features a 3.8-inch touchscreen with 800×480 resolution, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 9.6-megapixel CCD camera with 720p video recording, WiFi, Bluetooth, electronic wallet, and digital TV tuner. Meanwhile, the Galapagos 005SH has similar specs with the 003SH, as well as a QWERTY keyboard with four-way directional pad, an 8-megapixel CMOS camera with 720p video recording, and a microSDHC slot that expands its memory up to 32GB.

The two Smart 3D-enabled smartphones will be available in Japan in the coming months through Softbank Mobile, the third largest mobile carrier in that country. The 0035SH will be available beginning next month, while the 005SH will arrive in February.
